Overview:
ONDASPURE is a fast-acting antiemetic medication containing Ondansetron, which helps prevent nausea and vomiting. It is commonly used in patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgery. The orally disintegrating formulation dissolves quickly on the tongue without needing water, making it ideal for patients experiencing difficulty swallowing or who require immediate relief.
Indications:
ONDASPURE is prescribed for the prevention and treatment of:
- Nausea and Vomiting caused by:
- Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV).
- Radiation therapy.
- Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV).
- Other Causes of Nausea and Vomiting, including:
- Gastroenteritis.
- Morning sickness in pregnancy (under strict medical guidance).
Mechanism of Action:
Ondansetron is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist that blocks serotonin receptors in the brain and gastrointestinal tract. Serotonin release, triggered by chemotherapy, surgery, or other factors, is a major cause of nausea and vomiting. Ondansetron prevents this mechanism, offering effective relief.
Dosage and Administration:
- Adults:
- Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV): 8 mg tablet, 30 minutes before chemotherapy, followed by another dose 8 hours later. Then, 8 mg every 12 hours for 1–2 days post-treatment.
- Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV): One 16 mg dose 1 hour before anesthesia or 8 mg every 8 hours.
- Children (as per medical advice): Dosage varies by weight and condition.
- Administration:
- Place the tablet on the tongue; it will dissolve in seconds.
- No need for water.
